Do you ever get home from a busy day at work wishing a proper home cooked meal was waiting for you at home? This feeling is exactly what inspired the triplets Chris, Simon and Michael Devenish to start Enroot – Meals on Demand!

But let’s take a step back and discover how Enroot came to be. Raised by a mother who was trained at Le Cordon Bleu in France, good food has always played a big role in the triplets’ lives. After leaving their family home, the three brothers went their separate ways for a while. Simon studied Computer Animation and Graphic Design at Emily Carr and was working in the Visual Effects Industry. Mike started a career in Marketing and Tourism Management while Chris studied Economics at UBC.

Drawn by their passion for true and honest food, they saw an opportunity to start a business that did not yet exist in Canada. Then the idea for Enroot was born: a service that delivers fresh, cooked meals with high quality ingredients arriving to you in only 15-20 minutes.

Between the three of them, they had all the expertise they needed: Chris took over the financial side of the business, Simon took charge of creating the website, logo and all things branding, while Mike brought his hospitality and food expertise to the table by developing the recipes and sourcing the right ingredients.

This was only 2 years ago. After recruiting some of their friends and bringing their expertise together, th Devenish brothers have created a pioneer business. Enroot is Canada’s very first on-demand and ready-to-eat meal delivery service. Today, Enroot has almost 30 employees, 8 cars in their fleet and delivers 500 – 1000 meals every single day!

What is so unique about Enroot is the fully integrated service they offer. Meals are cooked from scratch in their kitchen at the Mount Pleasant headquarters where Mike and his team work hard to provide great quality food Vancouverites love. Even though Mike is responsible for the creation of new meals, his kitchen staff is heavily involved in this process. Some of the Enroot recipes are even old family recipes, passed down from generation to generation! I know you wanna hear more about how their food tastes like and how it works, so stay tuned for the 2nd part of the story soon as well as the opportunity to win free meals at Enroot!

Because delivering excellent food in literally no time right to your doorstep is not enough, Enroot is also doing their part to save our planet. Besides the effort of sourcing local ingredients, their fleet also consists only of hybrid cars. On top of that, all food containers are compostable; the lids that look like plastic de-compose very quickly. The team behind Enroot is always working towards minimizing their carbon footprint further. The next step will be adding electric bikes to their fleet to service more of Vancouver.

Another focus at Enroot is supporting the thriving local start up scene. Since Chris, Mike and Simon are entrepreneurs themselves, they know how hard it can be and want to help other locals who are trying to start their own business. This is also the reason why you can find products from local food start ups such as juices from The Juice Truck, Boylan Cola, Dickies’ Ginge Beer and snacks from Naked Snacks on their menu. Enroot also participates as a food vendor in monthly start up events to show their support.

Always looking for opportunities to improve the business, the three brothers behind Enroot have started to branch out into catering as well. Vanouver already has quite a few catering companies but Enroot’s unique selling point is the quick turnaround time. The food doesn’t need to be ordered days in advance but can be ordered just a few hours ahead of time. The Enroot staff are able to create large orders on the fly, which makes this a valuable service for lots of local business and companies.

The triplets have accomplished a lot in such a short time but they are visionaries with big plans for Enroot. The shorter-term goals are to expand their delivery zone and add electric bikes to their fleet. But, the main goal is to offer Enroot’s on-demand meals in every major city across Canada. After talking to the very inspiring team behind Enroot, I have no doubt that they will be able to achieve this in no time!

Stay tuned for Part II to find out more about how their food tastes and how you can order it as well as the incredible opportunity to win a month of free meals from Enroot! Have you tried the service Enroot offers yourself yet? Let us know what you thought!
