It’s Sunday morning and all you want is a lazy day at home with breakfast in bed but a look in the fridge confirms your suspicion; it’s completely empty. Sound familiar? Well, then I might just have the solution for you!

The Cycling Croissant is the the latest addition to the Vancouver Food Start Up scene and the project of Samir El Wali and Cécile Desbonnet. The two young entrepreneurs created a unique concept, that brings you scrumptious and incredibly fresh french pastries right to your door!

All you have to do is order online from their big selection before 5 PM for next day delivery and decide what time you want it delivered to your house. Samir and Cecile come to you 7 days a week from 7 AM to 12 PM. Simply wake up, put the coffee on and wait for your breakfast to arrive.

I had the opportunity to try a selection of items the Cycling Croissant offers, including the traditional french croissant, the Pain au Chocolate, the Almond Croissant and a Cinnamon Roll. Everything tasted fantastic and made my morning into something very special but my absolute favourite was the Cinnamon Roll. Nice and crisp on the outside, it convinces with a gooey, cinnamon flavour inside. The sugar icing drizzled on top makes this into a real guilty pleasure! Every morning should start with a treat like this.

The traditional croissant tastes just like a good french croissant should taste like. A slight crunch on the outside with a light and fluffy texture on the inside that almost melts in your mouth. With a little bit of jam, this is the perfect start in the day. Especially in combination with the Pain au Chocolate, which always brings back childhood memories from my summers in the South of France.

The Pain au Chocolate from the Cycling Croissant didn’t quite reach the level of the ones I enjoyed as a child in France but it was for sure the best one I’ve had in Vancouver! I just love the mix of buttery croissant flavour with the luscious chocolate inside. No jam needed for that one!

A big surprise was the Almond Croissant. I expected a croissant like pastry, with almonds sprinkled on top and that is what I got. But biting into it I discovered that it’s stuffed with a creamy almond filling! Wow, this was a nice surprise and I couldn’t get enough of it. Now I am even more intrigued about the Almond Pain au Chocolate in their selection, which is the next one on my list to try!

You can order all the pastries separately to create your very own breakfast or order one of their gourmet options, which includes a selection of breakfast items. Apart from pastries Samir and Cecile also offer a variation of sweets, such as macarons, cookies and caramelized nuts as well as teas and juices. I love to see the Vancouver food scene evolving and new ideas materializing. The Cycling Croissant is exactly that; a unique idea that fits right into our busy lives. It’s well executed and I especially like the environmental aspect of the delivery by bike. Everything is sourced from local french suppliers in Vancouver and picked up in the morning, which means all the pastries are as fresh as can be.

The prices are more than reasonable, especially considering it’s delivered to your house with no extra charge. Keep up the great work Samir and Cecile, I think I am going to make this into a regular Sunday morning treat!
