Chambar has been on my “must try soon”-list for a while but I wanted to keep it for a special occasion. So when the time came to think about my Birthday and Jack asked me where I wanna go for a birthday meal I did not have to think long and we booked a table at Chambar.

As my birthday was on a Monday, we decided to go there on the Sunday before and have a nice brunch. Said, done. We arrived at Chambar a few minutes to 11 am and got a nice table at the back of the room. I have walked past Chambar a thousand times but I had never realized how big this place is.

Jack must have mentioned that it was my birthday when he booked the table, because when we sat down and our waitress came, she asked who’s birthday we are celebrating. I thought this was very thoughtful and was amazed that they keep track of those things.

As it was my birthday and Sunday, I treated myself with a Mimosa, who needs coffee anyway. Then I took a peak at the menu and was quite surprised at the variety of dishes on it. I knew that their waffles are supposed to be amazing but I was not sure what else Chambar has on it’s menu. It is quite a variety of different things, from traditional poached eggs to Tajine.

As I had heard a lot of good things about their waffles, we decided to get one waffle and a dip each to start with. While Jack went for the salted caramel dip, I tried the lavender chocolate one, which was amazing!! The waffles were great as well, not to soft, not to crunch, just perfect.  I think next time I’m just gonna get 3 waffles.

For our “main”, Jack decided to go for the Friccassee, which was braised short ribs, balsamic cipollini onions, potatoes, watercress, fried eggs, applewood smoked cheddar. It sounded pretty good, looked even better and tasted amazing. I had a bit and loved the combination of the cheddar, ribs and some fresh apple.

After careful consideration I decided to order the Paella, which was 1 fried egg, curried orzo, spicy Chambar sausage, zucchini, red pepper, roasted corn, grana padano. Watercress, avocado, tomato salad. At first I wanted to go for the Gaufre au Saumon, which was a salmon stake on top of a savoury waffle, sauce hollandaise and poached eggs. But then I thought I try something new. The Paella was delicious, I very much liked the combination with the spicy sausage, the pineapple and the rice.

Everything I tried at Chambar was delicious and I really like the variety of the menu. It is not a typical brunch menu, you can see that they have put a lot of thought in it. The flavours are well balances and compliment each other.

The Service we had was great, our waitress was very friendly and even though it was quite busy, we never had to wait very long if we needed something.

I really liked the Atmosphere at Chambar. It is cool and modern but still warm and cozy with a lot of wood and warm accents. The big windows make the room feel open and bright and you have a nice view over the city.

My personal highlight from our visit to Chambar was that at the end I got a little plate with chocolates and sweets and a birthday note written on it. I thought that was a very cute idea and made me feel very special!
